Husband Claims Estranged Wife May Have Disappeared in 'Gone Girl' Scenario

A Connecticut mother of five who vanished more than a month ago may have done so in an attempt to set up a 'Gone Girl' scenario, a lawyer for her estranged husband claimed this week.

Jennifer Dulos, 50, was last seen in Connecticut on May 24 while dropping her children off from school. Jennifer had been in the middle of a custody battle and divorce from her husband Fotis, over the last two years.

In fact, police looked at Fotis and his girlfriend, Michelle Troconis, as potential suspects. The pair were arrested earlier this month on charges of tampering with evidence and hindering prosecution. Surveillance video caught the couple allegedly disposing items that had Jennifer's blood on them. Fotis' DNA was also recovered in his wife's home.

However, on Sunday, a lawyer for Fotis Dulos, claimed that his office obtained a manuscript written by Jennifer that was strikingly similar to Gillian Flynn's novel, 'Gone Girl,' in which a woman goes missing after staging her disappearance and framing her husband for murder.

"We have been provided a very dark 500-plus page novel Jennifer wrote," Norm Pattis, Fotis' lawyer said in a statement. "We don’t know what had become of Jennifer, but the 'Gone Girl' hypothesis is very much on our mind."

Pattis also said that his team had discovered that Jennifer had also recently incurred nearly $14,000 in medical debt.

"Those who know Jennifer know her to be a devoted mother; an extremely thoughtful, reliable, and organized woman; and attest that she would never, ever, disappear when she is responsible for the lives of five loving and energetic children," a statement from her family said shortly after she disappeared.

Police searched Jennifer's home and found blood and "evidence of attempts to clean the crime scene."

Both Fotis and Traconis pleaded 'Not Guilty' to the charges filed against them and are currently out on bail.
