Tim McGraw opened up about the bittersweetness of watching his three daughters grow up before his eyes.
McGraw, who shares three daughters with wife Faith Hillā Gracie, 23, Maggie, 22, and 19-year-old Audrey ā spoke with new dad Garrett Hedlund in a recent interview in which they reflected on fatherhood. In conversation with Hedlund, with whom he shares a father-son connection after acting as so in Friday Night Lights, McGraw spoke on why witnessing his daughtersā growth has been ābeautifulā and āsad.ā
āThey were just babies. Our youngest is 19 and living in New York City now, I mean, itās crazy. It goes by so fast,ā said the proud "girl dad." āYou think youāre giving them good life lessons. You know, as a parentālook, [laughs] youāre going to get half of everything wrong. Thatās just the nature of it. There is no handbook with it.ā
The crooner added, āTo look back now, over Faith [Hill] and Iās 25 years of marriage coming up in October, and see where weāre at and see where our kids are, see how fast itās gone by, itās almostā¦ itās unfathomable how time flies. And the next thing you know, they grow so fast and itās like every two years thereās a different child that you have as they age.ā
āItās a beautiful thing, but itās a sad thing at the same time,ā McGraw admitted. āYou find yourself reflecting and looking back at pictures and thinking, āOh my gosh, I remember that time, I remember when they looked like that.ā ā¦ Itās so sweet; thereās some melancholy that goes along with it as they age.ā
Speaking of fatherhood, McGraw also recently became a new godfather to Hedlund and Emma Roberts' baby boy, Rhodes.
