Sean "Diddy" Combs has officially begun his prison sentence at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey.
According to a report TMZ published on Thursday, October 30, the convicted Bad Boy Records founder was transferred to the federal corrections institution early this morning. FCI Fort Dix is the facility Combs and his attorneys requested in the weeks leading up his sentencing earlier this month. Teny Geragos argued that the low-security federal correctional institution would be the best location for Combs to "address drug abuse issues" and see his family. Fort Dix's Residential Drug Abuse Program, a.k.a RDAP, is the BOP’s most rigorous treatment program.
“In order to address drug abuse issues and to maximize family visitation and rehabilitative efforts, we request that the Court strongly recommend to the Bureau of Prisons that Mr. Combs be placed at FCI Fort Dix for RDAP purposes and any other available educational and occupational programs,” Geragos wrote at the time.
Judge Arun Subramanian sentenced Combs to four years and two months behind bars for two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. Because he was denied bail, Combs spent a year in jail and enrolled in various programs designed to help him get over his drug addiction. The artist addressed his issues with drugs in his final letter to the judge before his sentencing.
Judge Subramanian recommended that Combs remain in the New York area to serve out his sentence. However, Diddy's team believes this facility will be the former mogul's best shot at making a full recovery by the time his sentence ends. With time served, the 55-year-old artist will most likely spend three years in prison and must pay a $500,000 fine.
